Finding and fixing leaks can add up to big savings! Desert Water Agency surveys its distribution system for leaks to reduce water loss, but customers play a vital role in helping increase water efficiency.
Household leaks can waste almost 1 trillion gallons of water a year across the country, and the average home’s leaks can account for nearly 10,000 gallons annually. You can save water and money by tackling leaks inside and outside your house or workplace.
This Fix a Leak Week, March 18-24, 2024, make locating and repairing drips a priority by following DWA’s leak detection tips. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Check for dripping faucets and running toilets.
- Look for puddles around your irrigation system and near appliances, such as the washing machine, water heater and dishwasher.
- Inspect pool equipment and water levels.
- Conduct a toilet leak check with food coloring.
- Use your meter to check for leaks.
