During their regular board meeting at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, the Desert Water Agency Board of Directors will discuss and vote on water restrictions that include:
- No spray/sprinkler irrigation during daylight hours (except for leak checks or with an agency approved conservation alternative plan).
- Restaurants to provide water only to guests that ask for it.
There will be a public hearing where attendees can speak to the Board about the emergency regulations before they make decisions on emergency restrictions. If approved, the water restrictions could go into effect immediately.
The State Water Resources Control Board on May 24, passed emergency drought regulations that require all water agencies to adopt Level 2 of their Water Shortage Contingency Plans by June 10. The State regulations also included a ban on the irrigation of “non-functional turf” for commercial, industrial and institutional properties, including HOAs, unless necessary for trees and shrubs.
As part of its Level 2 actions, DWA will also consider:
- Increasing water waste patrols
- Actively discouraging overseeding
- Reaching out to customers about rules
- Reducing hydrant and dead-end line flushing
