DWA asks State Water Board to end drought emergency

2016/17 is shaping up to be one of the wettest winters on record. On February 6, DWA asked the State Water Board in a formal comment letter to let the drought emergency regulation to expire. DWA spoke to the State Water Board in January at a workshop they held on the topic.

Despite requests from water agencies across the state, on February 8, the State Water Board decided to extend the drought emergency through the end of the water year. In May, the Board will reconsider and allow agencies to give feedback.

DWA is currently asking its customers to save 10-13% compared to 2013 for the purposes of long-term sustainability.

DWA remains committed to working with the state to reflect the needs of our community.

DWA customers saved 29% in January

In January, our customers used 29% less water than in the same month in 2013. Palm Springs received 3.5" of rain this January, which is likely part of the reason conservation was high.

Forecasters are predicting that we may get another inch of rain in coming days. You may want to turn those sprinklers off to avoid water waste. Consider installing a smart irrigation controller with rain shut-off capabilities. Learn more about DWA's program at www.dwa.org/controller.
