DWA keeps conservation target, ends watering schedule

On April 18, Desert Water Agency's Board of Directors voted to retain its conservation target of 10-13% but to remove the watering schedule that was in place during the drought. DWA customers can now water on any day or time but the agency will continue to issue citations for wasteful watering practices. Customers are still encouraged to water during the mornings or evenings since evaporation peaks midday. 

DWA's 10-13% conservation target is compared to 2013 levels and is to help the agency reach long-term sustainability goals. Since the target was set in June 2016, DWA customers have shown a great commitment to conservation by saving 21%.

More imported water heading to valley

On April 14, the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) increased its allocation from 60 percent to 85 percent. This means that State Water Project Contractors (DWA is one of 29) will see more imported water from the Sierras. DWR noted that the precipitation and supply conditions were some of the factors that led to the boost. 

DWA customers saved 23.6% in March

In March, our community saved 23.6% compared to March 2013. This is well above our sustainability target of 10-13%. Since drought restrictions went into effect our cumulative savings remains at 24%.
