Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) began delivering water to the desert’s Whitewater Replenishment Facility on Jan. 10. The imported water deliveries are expected to continue through the end of February.

This delivery is thanks to an exchange agreement between DWA, Coachella Valley Water District and MWD.  We give MWD our State Water Project allotment in exchange for Colorado River Water which is delivered via an aqueduct that runs through the Coachella Valley.

We are tentatively scheduled to bring the Whitewater Hydroelectric Plant online starting on January 15 to harness the power of the flow of the imported water. We urge people to follow the no trespassing signs and stay out of the water.

Water is also being delivered to the Mission Creek Replenishment Facility in the Desert Hot Springs area.
