Unfortunately, there have been instances of plant pilfering in neighborhoods and homeowners’ associations. If you experience or witness a plant theft, please notify the police.

Certain landscaping, such as cactus, a popular and expensive native plant, can be appealing to a thief looking to turn around and sell it for profit. Newly planted landscaping is especially vulnerable since it is easier to remove.

Here are tips on how to help prevent/handle plant theft:

  1. Install lighting and motion-sensor security lights for your garden and landscaping.
  2. Check if your homeowner's policy covers landscape and garden theft.  If it doesn't, find out how much it would cost for additional coverage.
  3. Keep expensive plants out of the public's eye to minimize temptation.
